Here’s the new standalone and plug in instrument ‘Fundamental’ made in collaboration between Hainbach and sonicLAB. It’s a deep and rich machine learning model of the classic Rohdes & Swcharz RC Generator vacuum tube oscillator with a huge range of new modern features. This was famously used by Stockhausen at the WDR studio and here we see 8 versions of this oscillator based on polymorphing wavetable synthesis that models not only the core waveform of the original 1950s test oscillator but also models the tube amplifier stages which pushed the core sine waves into some unique rich tube based waveforms. Each of the 8 voices has custom frequency, gain, panning and a deep stochastic (LFOs, random etc) modulation section for animating the sounds. I could continue to list features here but check the link below, it’s rich and immersive with a lovely sonic quality that pulls the methods of working with test equipment into the modern era that with full MPE support is a powerful performance instrument too. I’ve made a bank of presets that are free to download below, these aim to explore building sonic tension, musical drones and bouncing melodies, abstract harmonic clusters and a range of sound design avenues to explore.
