Back from Deer Shed Festival and again it was a great time! For the 7th year running both Mylar Melodies & I have been partners in bleeps and bloops bringing a range of music making gear for people of all ages to come and play with.
For me this year it centred around the Erica Synths Bullfrog Drums, which was great! Lots of beats were made, big clacky buttons and knobs were super tactile and fun for everyone.

After a larger set up of gear literally got the tweeters smoking and burning hot things were slimmed down and the drums paired with the trusty Arturia Microbrute, which is a fantastic sounding synth that’s held up to several festivals of gunk and kids hammering away at it.
As visual stimuli for the beats and bass we had the Lumatic Visual Devices Rorschach video synth. Super popular at the festival with people zoning out to the lo fi visuals, finding forms, shapes and “space invaders!” alongside people making music.

We had SPvids with us for the first time, getting people chopping samples and making beats on SP404s and the MPC Mini. We also had The DJ School UK getting people (including the OG DivBaby!) scratching to a range of tracks.

The science tent was split up this year (much cooler, quieter and nicely spread out) so I didn’t get much chance to check it out but the DIY synth building workshops from The Synth Shed were popular, fully booked and lots of people left with an 808 bass drum circuit to play with.
Those that have followed along with what we’re up to for a while, or that have been to Deer Shed festival and find themselves here might remember videos we’ve made from past festivals which you can check out above and below.
