It’s great to see LA based 1010 Music continue to support and develop their “box” range with a new mk2 Bitbox and a new micro Bitbox, both of which are in the Eurorack modular format. The original Bitbox module was released in 2016 followed up by alternative firmware and panels for Toolbox, FXbox & Synthbox offering sequencing & modulation, multi FX and synth voices to the original sample based concept. Beyond those original modules and developments 1010 Music have brought laser pattern generation – yes … frickin’ lasers! – under the control of your Eurorack voltages and they’ve also collaborated with MOK to bring out the Waverazer Dual Oscillator. There’s also the Blackbox desktop addition to the line up which brought all of the firmwares and power of the line up into a single hardware unit.
The new Bitbox micro is a smaller and lower priced 18HP version of the Bitbox bringing Eurorack sampling “for smaller racks and smaller budgets.” It’s the same touch screen based technology that supports 8 stereo sample pads which can be recorded into directly in the modular environment or sounds can be loaded from the microSD card. You can trigger samples via CV or MIDI, use on board FX and creates mixes across the outputs all of which can be saved and configured for later recall.
The Bitbox micro will be $399 and is set for release June 2020. There’s much more information here – https://1010music.com/product/bitbox-micro
1010 music say the mk2 Bitbox is the next generation of it’s Eurorack sampler that has twice the processing power and increased sampler polyphony that now goes up to 24 voices. There’s an additional granular mode and a new IPS touchscreen which “stays crisp when viewed from all angles” making it easier to edit, select files, trigger and tweak in various environments.
The mk2 Bitbox will be $599.95 and is set to release in the first week of June 2020. Again there’s lots of information here – https://1010music.com/product/bitbox-mk2
It was nice to see that mk1 Bitbox users also have updates including the new granular mode and other tweaks. As I said at the start of this post it’s great to see people continue to develop their ideas but to also support existing/legacy products too.
